it is okay

There is not a lot of information in this book about the mudras. He just says use the first 15 for memory improvement and the next for concentration etc... No explanation as to what each do. Some are easy, but most were difficult if you are like me and have a bit of arthritis in your hands. A few required a lot of contortion. He does explain how to do them and has a picture of each that are mostly good. I would rate it as okay. I order a couple more books on Mudras that I am hoping have more information. For 99 cents, it is probably an okay use of funds,

Liked the simplicity and how clear photos show the hand positions. But "memory" and "memory improvement" cover many details, overtones and aspects. Consider rewriting if the order of progression of memory improvement; or at least specify more conspicuously if all hand positions work equally well.

Excellent Read for Any Investor

I just finished reading the Merger Arbitrage book by Thomas Kirchner and I really enjoyed it. Mr. Krichner's book broke down the philosophy and process behind investing in mergers in a simple and concise way so that anyone can understand how merger arbitrage works. The book has detailed examples of past mergers which really help to illustrate how mergers operate and how to take advantage of them. The book also talks about risks involved with mergers and explains how some risks really aren't that bad considering the potential up side for merger arbitrage strategies.

My favorite part of the book was chapter 12 which talked about how merger arbitrage strategies complement traditional investment strategies. Mr. Kirchner pointed out simple benefits such as diversification of risk and return streams as basic reasons to incorporate a merger arbitrage strategy into traditional investment strategies and he backs up his claims with data that shows exactly what he is talking about.

Overall I would recommend this book to any person who wants to learn more about investing. The book caters to any level of investor and it has great examples which really help out!

Highly readable and informative

Merger Arbitrage is informative and engaging and if you like finance and investing you will love this book, even if you haven't spent more than five minutes in your life thinking about mergers & acquisitions. A more descriptive title might have been 99 Mergers because that's essentially what the book is, the definitive collection of mergers and what we can learn from each one.

There are hostile takeovers, management buyouts, bidding wars, busted mergers, spinoffs, proxy wars, insider scams, activist shareholders, private equity kings, anti-trust suits, appraisal actions, and a few other situations that you've never thought of but should know about because let's face it, anything can and does happen in the financial markets.

It is a fun and informative read and Kirchner includes enough statistics to let us see the big picture, for example what mergers are more likely to succeed and why, both for firms and investors. It is also pro-shareholder and pro-investor and rightfully skeptical about both Wall Street (including private equity) and management. I still have one chapter to go in the book but am already recommending it to my friends and colleagues who have an interest in the markets.

I read a lot of books, but I also do due diligence before I read something. When I looked at the author's fund, it was clear that it was underperforming for very long stretches of time. Before you buy the book, do the research.

About the Author
James A. Michener was one of the world’s most popular writers, the author of more than forty books of fiction and nonfiction, including the Pulitzer Prize–winning Tales of the South Pacific, the bestselling novels The Source, Hawaii, Alaska, Chesapeake, Centennial, Texas, Caribbean, and Caravans, and the memoir The World Is My Home. Michener served on the advisory council to NASA and the International Broadcast Board, which oversees the Voice of America. Among dozens of awards and honors, he received America’s highest civilian award, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, in 1977, and an award from the President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities in 1983 for his commitment to art in America. Michener died in 1997 at the age of ninety.

A Real Heartbreaker!

It's a heartbreaker. A short fictional description of the horrors of the Korean War. Michener, as always, is a superb story teller. BTW, there is a village called Toko-Ri, just outside the gates of Camp Hovey in the 2nd Infantry Division's AO. But Michener's bridges are fiction and have no relationship to the actual village. Somehow Michener uses this one episode of an Air Force pilot to give us a picture of the awesome misery of that war. You don't need to know much else about this tragic event in our history.

"Shared Sacrifice" - true then; true today

"From where do we get such men?" wonders the Admiral after one of his pilots is shot down over Korea. This short story is one of Michener's finest, as he tells the story of a group of pilots flying bombing and close-air-support missions from an aircraft carrier off the Korean coast. While the pilots fly into tremendous flack mission after mission, their admiration and respect is offered to three Navy crewman who form a fledgling Search & Rescue Team who fly daily to bring the downed pilots home.

"The Bridges at Toko-Ri" ranks in the top few of classic war novels, and will explain 'shared sacrifice' in terms everyone can understand.

Aircraft Carriers

It is Michener's sixth book. It is the story of an aircraft carrier and the pilots who fly the jet planes off of them. It takes place during the Korean War (which was not called a war at all, but a military action). I enjoyed the lesson about the workings of this huge ship and the jet planes, and also what the men, both pilots and non-pilots, go through who serve on these great ships. Excellent description of life on a aircraft carrier. Also an explanation of why we were in Korea. Hollywood made a movie of this story. I saw the film and it follows the book closely. However, the book is more detailed, as books usually are.
