Required Reading

The guys that wrote this book really know what they are talking about. It is a great education, especially for young riders but experienced guys will learn a thing or two as well. I like that it has a mix of practical how - to advice and theoretical explanations. I'm a career mechanical engineer on automotive powertrains and I still learned a lot of stuff specific to motorcycles, and my 15 yr old learned a ton. Now he knows WHY we are doing all those maintenance jobs.
This is not a shop manual, but study this book in addition to your model-specific shop manual, and you will know 99% of what you need to keep your bike in top condition and improve as a rider as well.
If this book came attached to every new dirt bike, it would drastically shorten the learning curve for every rider.

I have motor work done by this man and have been buying his books for the past few years. Top notch in every detail, pertinent information. States facts then gives his opinion. I find his opinion valuable because of his past career and his current level of workmanship on my motors. Good buy for valuable information for getting the most from your current four stroke, regardless of brand. He does go into specifics on the most popular selling bikes but keeps it fairly general too considering most of the applications can apply to any four stroke motor.

About the Author
Alison Bailey is an associate professor in the Psychological Studies in Education Program of the Department of Education at the University of California, Los Angeles, in addition to being a faculty associate researcher for the National Center for Research on Evaluation, Standards and Student Testing (CRESST). A graduate of Harvard University, Bailey’s research focuses primarily on language and literacy development, English language development in second language learners, and language assessment. At CRESST, her work focuses on researching the empirical basis of academic language for assessment, curriculum, and teacher professional development. Bailey serves on the advisory boards of numerous states and commercial publishers developing language and literacy assessments for English Language Learners. She is coauthor of the new IPT assessment of English language development at the prekindergarten-kindergarten level, editor and contributing author to The Language Demands of School: Putting academic English to the test (Yale Press, 2007), and coeditor and author (with Allyssa McCabe and Gigliana Melzi) of Spanish-Language Narration and Literacy Development (Cambridge University Press, forthcoming, 2008).

Margaret Heritage is Assistant Director for Professional Development at the National Center for Research on Evaluation, Standards and Student Testing (CRESST) at UCLA, and leads the data use program of the Assessment and Accountability Comprehensive Center.

Prior to joining CRESST, she had many years of teaching and leadership experience in schools in the United Kingdom and the United States, including a period as a County Inspector of Education in the United Kingdom, and as principal at the UCLA laboratory school. She has also taught graduate classes in Education at the Department of Education at the University of Warwick, England, the University of California, Los Angeles, and at Stanford University.

Solid RPG

The world ended. The game begins.

Aftermath is a post apocalyptic RPG. I love it.

There is a very great deal of info in these books culled from basic training, survival and disaster preparedness manuals.
Asteroid impacts, zombies, social unrest, nuke outs, petroleum eating bacteria - its all in there.

That said, this game was written by math happy chart geeks. The basic character generation system and the combat framework are very solid but if your group absolutely has to use every single chart presented for every single situation you will spend all night rolling dice and never get the story moving. I usually handle most of that during game prep and it works out pretty good.

Some of the modules are really fun. The original game designers had a really wierd sense of humor. Carnivorous Koala bears.

A few minor notes: Guns are deadly (ya, no kidding) so remind your players to duck. Often it only takes 1 hit.
If you give the party has a hand grenade they will almost always wipe themselves out.
Keep a few campaign specific pre-generated characters around so things do not slow down too much.

Old School game and Fun

Aftermath is an old school system that provides much of the style and mechanics to current RPGs of today. Aftermath was one of my first post-Apocalypse games I played back in the 80's. My original copy has not weather the years well this was a repurchases to get the original matierals and to introduce younger players of today to what I did back in the old days. Glory days can live on.

Great Post Apocalyptic RPG. Produced in the 80's during the cold war and imminent nuclear war, it was very fun to play. Now it is all about zombies and diseases, but this still can be played with those type scenarios.

Great book to learn and revise your English pronunciation!

This is a great book. Very easy to understand for people without previous knowledge of phonetics. For me, that studied English as a Second Language, made me remember my classes; it also made me realize that I still have things to learn.
It is written in a very witty, refreshing way; not at all like a rigid university textbook. This feature makes it appealing for younger people, in my opinion.

this book is very good my English pronunciation has changed less in two weeks after i received the book with the cd, i listen to the cd everyday when i am talking with my friends at work i talked with confidence now, if you want to speak better English this is the best book for you.

Maria Antonieta Poblete was the daughter of a “Hacendado”, the owner of a sugar plantation in the Tenancingo Valley of Mexico. In the 18th Century and earlier all fertile land in the valleys of the Federal District was owned by hereditary families, which had received it from the Crown of Spain after the Conquest. In the first decade of the 20th Century Maria Antonieta was in school in Toluca, the city just north of her home in Malinalco. As the privileged daughter of a “Hacendado” she would have continued her fine education in the Catholic Girl’s School had the Mexican Revolution and tenacious, Mormon missionaries not intervened and changed what should have been her life.

The revolution began for land reform, as the Mexican government had confiscated land from the people and given it to the plantation owners to plant more sugar cane. Land is also why the Mormons were in Mexico. They had purchased land from the government in order to practice polygamy, which was against the law in the United States. Mormon missionaries were sent by the church hierarchy in Salt Lake City to convert Mexican citizens and exhort them to come to the states of Chihuahua and Sonora where the Mormon Church had established colonies.

Maria’s story is taken from journals that she kept most of her life and from the memories of her childhood. The story follows the history of the three world events that appear in conjunction during the first decades of the 20th Century. There seems to be a connecting thread that follows Maria Antionieta throughout her life and it is posited that this may be the connecting principle of the Universe. This story of Maria’s shows the connection of World War I, the Mexican Revolution and the Mormon’s in Mexico.

Fascinating book....I couldn't put it down

An outstanding memoir....a must read for anyone looking for the intersection of love, war and revolution. Wonderfully told tale of lost love, the Mexican revolution and WWI and WWII. This is Nicholas Sparks one better....Great read!
